John Cull is one of the six award winners from Outside In 2007.
John was born in and has lived in Brighton all of his life. He is one of six award winners of Outside In 2007.
He attends Wellington House Day Centre for one day a week and whilst there spends most of his time painting. John has always made drawings and painted for as long as he can remember. He is mainly self taught although he did attend some adult education classes for a short while.
John is a member of the A2A Rockets group based at Brighton University and also “Our Art” – a group that supports and promotes artwork of learning disabled artists in Brighton. John enjoys painting portraits and for this exhibition he spent two days at Pallant House Gallery meeting and sketching the staff.

These portraits are painted in such a way that the artist makes us believe that he has affection for the sitter or models. The warmth of the colour palette makes me feel endeared to the characters both human and animal in his paintings.
