James Tanner

“My ceramics work is influenced by the built environment particularly industrial buildings and hinterlands, Art Deco and Church buildings. In jewellery making I use impressed patterns, etching and enamels for their colour possibilities, and have recently begun to incorporate small ‘found objects’ I’ve collected over the years. I have attended evening classes for many years where I find that if I become engrossed in what I am doing, I can relax and not be too troubled by unwelcome thoughts. Also being in a working environment with other people, gives me a sense of shared purpose and inspiration.” - James Tanner

"I became ill after loosing my job some years ago, and subsequently recieved treatment for obsessive compulsive disorder and depression. I have continued to be involved with art and currently volunteer at the Bethlem Royal Hospital." - James Tanner

James is one of the artists featured in the Outside In 2009 exhibition.
