Step Up is both a training opportunity for marginalised and outsider artists to lead workshops and a dedicated piece of research in to the collections at Pallant House Gallery in to the lives, stories, impact and work of outsider, outsider influenced and marginalised artists.
Step Up 2009 was funded through Renaissance and Surrey, East and West Sussex Museums Development Service. Five marginalised artists worked with a researcher and Gallery staff to develop four workshop packs that were used by Step Up trained artists to deliver workshops throughout Outside In 2009. Step Up has secured funding from the 2012 London Paralympcs for the next three years.
In 2010 and early 2011, 15 marginalised artists were trained in how to lead workshops. They have gone on to lead workshops for Pallant House Gallery and as trained workshop leaders will also lead Step Up workshops across the country to promote the open art competition Outside In 2012.
Some of the trainees also went on to work with a researcher and four workshop packs are currently being developed and will be available to download online soon. These new workshop packs together with the exsisting workshop packs will be delivered by the Step Up trained artists during Outside In 2012.
We have recently completed the Step Up 3 training and it was a great success.
