Lucy Wang

Oil Portrait Painter, diagnosed with bipolar at Royal Bethlem hospital 2011

I painted from a young age, but after coming to London found it difficult to know how to sell paintings, or what English taste is for oil painting. I come from Beijing originally, and copied some European paintings as a teenager, many from Constable and also Whistler. I have always specialised in portraits rather than landscape, but tried painting a few landscapes in 2007, I don't know how to develop my style in landscapes, as they are usually easier to sell than portraits. I have not painted since 2007 as I had two children since then and feel very tired, it is a big step to begin painting again, hope I can be strong enough to begin painting again later.

Lucy, when the time is right you will be strong enough, your work is very expressive it would be a shame for someone so talented not to continue painting.
