Art and the digital era

Walking the line

I am a 47 year old man. I work parttime at a job which allows me the luxury of drawing whilst working. I attend a local centre, The Cornerhouse in Southwick, where their art tutor has introduced me to photographing my work. Subsequently I won an NHS Partnership Positive image competition. I have just competed the designs for sixteen AO panels which will go up next year in Adur. My work involves detailed line drawings which I then digitally photograph, adding coloured layers to build the image. Sometimes I will then paint the picture and rephotograph it so that I have many versions to work on digitally. Once satisfied with the image I take an A3 print of the work to mount and perhaps sell. My frequent walks and love of books and photography have allowed me to absorb many different influences from my local area. I hope my pictures are a cross between classical drawing and the latest computer photo-editing techniques.

These images are a result of combining conventional drawing and painting with digital manipulation to edit the images as JPEGs. I can then either use them to make greetings cards or choose to have them as A3 format digital prints. They serve too as a digital archive of my recent work.

This is a digital image of the stained glass in a local church. The depth of the blue and the gteametric shape appealed to me
